For the more health conscious cook amongst us Short Brown Rice is a great option. Due to the bran layer or outer husk of the rice not being removed during the milling process this grain is able to retain much of the goodness that Mother Nature provided it.

It has a nutty flavour and a firm texture and is a versatile product that can be used in wide variety of dishes from salads to accompanying cooked meats.

A great way to prepare Short Brown Rice is to use the absorption cooking technique.

Use 1 cup of Rice to 2 cups of water.

Bring to the boil the rice and water then simmer whilst covered for 25 minutes
Following this remove from heat and leave to stand covered for 5 minutes before serving
