One of the great qualities of Long Grain Brown rice is that it is able to retain its nutritious bran layer. This contains essential vitamins, minerals and fibre. Those of us that are a little more health conscious enjoy this nutritious rice in a wide variety of dishes.
Its nutty flavour and chewy texture make it a great choice to toss into a salad and it is the perfect accompaniment to barbecued meats, grilled salmon or vegetables.
You will notice that brown rice will take a little longer and require slightly more water to cook than other varieties of rice. This is due to the outer layer or bran still being attached.
There are few different schools of thought in terms of the best method for cooking brown rice.
Our goto method is to boil the rice in an excess amount of water for 30 minutes, following this drain the excess water away covering the rice to steam for 10 minutes. This leaves you with a soft fluffy rice every time.
