Steel cut oats are one of the least processed oat varieties out there. They are made when the whole groat is cut into several pieces with a steel blade (it looks similar to rice that's been cut into pieces). Steel cut oats have a nuttier taste and a chewier texture than your other oat varieties out there.
Steel cut oats contain a variety of important nutrients and are particularly high in beta glucan, a unique type of fibre which supports weight loss, heart health, blood sugar control, and digestion. They’re also a good source of iron and plant protein!
The easiest way to make creamy steel-cut oats? Bring one part oats to three parts liquid to the boil, cover the pot with a lid, turn off the heat and leave to sit overnight. Your oats will be ready in the morning! For extra protein, mix in egg whites, Greek yogurt, or protein powder. You can also add toppings like berries, sliced apples, chia seeds, nuts, nut butter, cinnamon, and brown sugar.
