Crushed red pepper or chilli flakes are a condiment or spice consisting of dried and crushed whole peppers (seeds and all).
Chilli flakes, are used to top pizza, stir-fries, spicy pastas, and many other dishes. They can be stirred into sauces to add heat. You can even add a pinch of chilli flakes into scrambled eggs with crumbled feta and chopped fresh basil. Mix chilli flakes with extra-virgin olive oil and crushed garlic. Use them to marinate chicken, lamb or beef.
You’ll find a little glass jar filled with crushed red pepper flakes in every nearly every pizza parlour across the country. This stuff is everywhere.
