Slivered almonds are almonds that have been blanched, peeled, split in half, then cut into tiny strips (slivers). They have a deliciously creamy nut flavour and a firm, crunchy texture.
Even without their skins and sliced, slivered almonds are a potent power snack, with just as much protein and heart-healthy fats, and a substantial amount of anti-inflammatory vitamin E, bone-strengthening magnesium, and blood-supporting iron.
They are a great addition to cereals, trail mixes, granola or porridge (to add that extra crunch), baked goods and sweets or even to savoury dishes like salads or homemade bread. Alternatively, you can lightly toast them in a dry pan, on low heat, to add extra colour and toasty flavour. We like to add the crunchy toasted ones to come greek yoghurt then drizzle a bit of honey, chia and hemp seeds over the top!
