Black Barley is one of the oldest cultivated grains, originally found in Western Asia and North East Africa. It has been used for animal fodder, however has come to be one of the most popular health foods as well as being commonly used to make bread and as a fermentable material for beer and other distilled beverages.

Most commonly used in soups, stews, salads and stuffings, Black Barley is a good substitute for rice, pearl barley and even pasta. Works well served with other grains to create a contrast in colour and texture.

The health benefits are also immense due to the bran being completely intact (unlike pearl barley) black barley is high in wholegrain nutrition. Packed with vitamins B & E, calcium, iron and potassium and a good source of fibre
